Artist Bio:

My name is Kayla Whitney and I am a local Hamiltonian artist, muralist and community engager. I am the owner of Koe Design studio, which has become a success because of the support and encouragement of our wonderful city. I am inspired by colour and form and am forever exploring mergers between classical maximalism and contemporary minimalist design. I spend my winters making illustrations and paintings in my home studio in the North End and my summers taking these ideas and concepts into the public realm through murals and community projects. My passion and creative interest in participating in the growth of communities has given me the pleasure of serving and connecting with people in a meaningful way through my art.

Artist Statement:

2020 has been a rough time for us all. We have come to notice that it is time for change; that we need to take a step back and reevaluate some of our ideas and approaches as to what it means to uplift our community. This project is exactly what we need, it is a unique solution-based community gathering place that gives us a real opportunity to filter resources to the people who need them most. As an artist who is always looking for ways to connect with and serve my community I am thrilled to be a part of this initiative.
